Fort Walton Beach, Florida Near Pensacola

Visitors to the state of Florida have a lot of coastal cities to choose from. However, no other city in Florida has a more beautiful coastline than Fort Walton Beach, Florida. With its white, powdery sand to its emerald waters, the beaches in Fort Walton are some of the most beautiful in the state. In addition to these breathtaking beaches, Fort Walton has many more exciting things to see and do!
Some of the earliest settlers in the Fort Walton area were members of native tribes who constructed various mound structures that you can still see and learn about from the city’s historical sites today. Another group of settlers that is rumored to have used the region as a base of operations are pirates. While there is no evidence that pirates ever traveled to the Fort Walton region, the city still puts on various pirate celebrations and events throughout the year.
Fort Walton Beach in its modern form was founded in 1941. Due to its beautiful surroundings, it immediately began to attract tourists from all over the country, causing its population to grow as many decided to stay in the region. Today, it is one of Florida’s most visited areas, which is impressive given the state’s high number of tourist destinations.
Outside of the beach, Fort Walton is home to both a vibrant uptown and downtown area. It is also surrounded on both sides by two major Air Force Bases: Eglin Air Force Base and Hurlburt Fields. The United States Military serves as a major source of employment in the Fort Walton Beach area.
While its coastal surroundings are serene, there is so much more to Fort Walton than just the beach! Be sure to stop by and discover everything Fort Walton Beach has to offer!
